Living with a depressed partner - STORIES
I've looked on the internet for a place where I could possibly post about what I'm living. Couldn't find anything that would satisfy me. There are a lot of self-help type books for sale on such sites, I've tried some. I've tried to give my partner some, none of them have succeeded in yielding even a tiny bit of improvement. Too many of these books are filled with platitudes and clichés, suffer from an excess of feel good and misplaced optimism. Not saying they're entirely worthless they may be helpful to some depending on the severity of the depression but when one's depression has reached the chronic stage, even with the so-called help of medication, books which reel off hackneyed basically trite improvement tips simply can't cut it. This is not a pretty story although there are some OK moments, names won't be changed although I will call my partner by the initial S. He has an aversion to the internet and is paranoid about anybody knowing anything about him. The thought that he might be out there in pictures, deeds or words being swallowed whole by the giant, voracious maws of the internet would probably send him into a deep deep spiral. Of course this blog is secret it's between me and whoever chooses to read this. It will not be a blow by blow although at times it might feel like that. First a little background will be in order to situate the severity of the depression in some sort of time continuum. This depression is not new there have been others but this one has certainly been the longest, going on almost four years now give or take a few months of "happiness" or normalcy here and there.
